Tailored Solutions

Standfast’s success comes from working alongside organisations in a range of industries to analyse fall hazards - then developing, designing and manufacturing solutions to overcome them.

We have re-designed and re-engineered TRAM to meet the needs of employers and employees in a wide range of industries.

Research and Development

At Standfast, we are continually researching to refine existing products and develop new ones. Our process for R&D enquiries is as follows:

We often receive requests from contractors, manufacturers and individuals seeking a solution to an identified safety hazard. Once the request has been verified and is viable, Standfast engineers develop a prototype and determine whether a test schedule is warranted. The recommendation is then forwarded to the client, who, if a concept test is approved, remains in the process up to the point of manufacture. If you would like to propose an improvement to the way an existing workplace hazard is addressed, or are seeking a new concept or solution for an identified safety hazard, please click here to submit your comments.

Please make sure your request includes the following:

Coal ship loader

Coal ship loaderIn this application, the TRAM system was installed on a telescoping platform at an elevation of 15m for which no other practicable height safety control could be found. A solution was developed using a mechanism that allows the rail to slide through the TRAM unit with the platform extended, leaving the TRAM unit in position for the worker to use once the platform is in the desired position.

Vehicle Gantry

Vehicle GantryIn this application, a gantry was designed and constructed to incorporate a TRAM fixed rail system. The gantry includes cantilevered walkways to allow access from the gantry to the top of tankers of various heights. The worker connects to the overhead TRAM system which then provides total fall protection from tankers of any length.

Ensham Dragline

Coal ship loaderIn this application, a gantry was designed and constructed to incorporate a TRAM fixed rail system. The gantry includes cantilevered walkways to allow access from the gantry to the top of tankers of various heights. The worker connects to the overhead TRAM system which then provides total fall protection from tankers of any length.

The Ensham mine in Queensland, Australia, produces high energy low-ash thermal coal, and some semi-soft coking coal. The mine recently commissioned a Bucyrus 8750-63 dragline to add to its existing overburden-removal fleet. This 7000-tonne state-of-the-art machine is the second largest type of electric dragline in the world and has the capacity to move about 30 million BCM (bank cubic metres) of overburden per year.

To help maintain the motors that power the machine, the engine bay is fitted with overhead cranes. These cranes need maintenance themselves, so are fitted with walkways to allow access for workers. The primary control for protecting workers from falls whilst on the walkways is guardrails, but the guardrails do not provide total protection. Portions of the rails needed to be cut-out to clear obstacles such as structural beams when moving along the girders without striking and, on one side of each walkway, a guardrail could not be fitted.

Standfast has worked with the Ensham mine in Queensland to overcome these height safety concerns and a tailored TRAM safety system has been installed . This system allows the maintenance workers to operate securely and safely at any point along the walkway - they cannot reach a fall position.

Drawbridge Access System

Drawbridge stepsThe Drawbridge Access System has been purpose-designed to bridge the gap between the ground and existing OEM ladder systems on heavy mobile plant and railway rollingstock. The product is also suitable for use anywhere that short retractable steps or a short retractable gangway is needed. For example:

The Drawbridge Access System is tough, yet its' retractable action is feather-light, allowing it to be operated manually as well as under power. The Drawbridge can be manufactured in a variety of sizes to suit the application and are made from robust cal/zinc or aluminium materials.

The Drawbridge Access System is particularly suitable for use in the maritime, construction, transport, agriculture and mining sectors.
